Happy Canada Day!

Oh, Caaaaa-na-daaaaa, our home and native laaaaaaand.
Truuuuue paaaa-triot luuuuuuv, within our hearts com-maaaaand!
With gloooow-ing hearts wee-hee seeeee thee rise...

Dear Friends to the North, will you harbor me and Ramon when George W. appoints Jerry Falwell or one of his ilk to the now-vacant Supreme Court post? Please say yes.

Ash and I are currently obsessed with the idea of moving to France. Permanently. There, we could pretend to be Canadian, and join our Franco-Gallic brethren in scoffing at America's tacky taste in politics, fast food, young wine, and cheap shoes, while smoking a pack of Gauloise indoors. Sounds like heaven, no?

Mais oui, Madame. You guys are WAY too urbane to be American, anyway, and Ramon would make a stunning Frenchman. I can see it now...

AND, not to be missed, our last name is "Deslauriers" which is about as bloody French as you can get. AND, my name, Cerise, means "Cherry" in French. Whew. It's fate. We gotta go.

But I'll stick to cloves, thank you.

Cloves it is. We don't have to switch, then.

We're actually not kidding. How cool would it be to buy an old, ramshackle wine barn and remodel it into an old, ramshackle commune? (With many WCs.) Cool, probably...cheaper, definitely, than living in SoCal. I was online yesterday and saw a 300 year-old, 2500-sq. foot beauty on 2 acres for 25,000EU. I'm not joking. $50K to buy + $50K to remodel into a dream house = $200K less than our condo. *Choke*

The goal is June 2007. Pray about it. And tell me how hard it is to learn French.

Hash, frogs?

Dude, Aly, don't toy with me. Have you seen "Stealing Beauty"? If not, watch it, pretend you're me wishing to god I lived that life (but in France), then think seriously about what I feel when you dangle these sorts of plans in front of my nose. Because what you're describing is exactly, EXACTLY what Ramon and I'd like to do in our dreams of dreams. C

Well, I'll go ahead and have a Sunday morning Arrowsmith moment and say, "Dream on!"

And why not? It's not as if Europe is the moon.

Oh, I forgot you missed the 80's. Arrowsmith is a hair band with a lead singer named Steven Tyler, known for his EXTREMELY large mouth, which looks great on his daughter (Liv Tyler) but kinda freaky on him.

Oh, yeah. Steven Tyler, how you both attract and repulse me...

And Liv Tyler is on Both Ramon's and my freebie lists. If we ever meet her we'll have to fight over who gets her first.

You know she's the main actor in "Stealing Beauty", right, or is you mentioning her just amazing coincidence? It is! It's all coming together! We must all move to sunny Europe.

Allons enfants de la patrie,
Le jour de gloire est arrivé
Contre nous de la tyrannie
L'étendard sanglant est levé
Entendez vous dans les campagnes,
Mugir ces féroces soldats?
Ils viennent jusque dans nos bras
Egorger nos fils, nos compagnes!

Aux armes, citoyens!
Formez vos bataillons!
Marchons! Marchons!
Qu'un sang impur
Abreuve nos sillons!

Amour sacré de la patrie,
Conduis, soutiens nos bras vengeurs!
Liberté, Liberté cherie,
Combats avec tes defenseurs!
Sous nos drapeaux, que la victoire
Accoure à tes males accents!
Que tes ennemis expirants
Voient ton triomphe et notre gloire!

Nous entrerons dans la carrière
Quand nos ainés n'y seront plus;
Nous y trouverons leur poussière
Et la trace de leurs vertus.
Bien moins jaloux de leur survivre
Que de partager leur cercueil,
Nous aurons le sublime orgueil
De les venger ou de les suivre

I could be wrong, but I think that may be the French national anthem.
